Peeing Off the Porch

These are the lyrics to a song I wrote over 10 years ago. You may think it’s inappropriate. Maybe it is. But it’s true. Much of what the song says is more true today than when I wrote it years ago.

For the record I grew up over a half mile off the road. Peeing off the porch was just what we did. There’s nothing special about it, but there is something special about the simplistic lifestyle and isolation that allows peeing off the porch to be a normal part of growing up.

Amy and I still live out in the country but a lot closer to the road than I did growing up. It took her some time to understand why I would walk right past the bathroom and go out to the porch every morning. Old habits are hard to break. all day out in the sun

Peeing Off the Porch

Will Campbell

Spend all day out in the sun

Come home when the work gets done

Suppertime we gather round

Give thanks to God then chow down

Sitting on the porch in my rocking chair

Free from worry, free from care

Got a peace of mind with the peaceful life

And I know everything is going to be all right

I love my kids and I love my wife.

I love my work; I love my life.

But the best part of a life like this

Is when I get the urge to piss

I can step outside, drop my drawers

And take a leak off of my front porch

Let’r fly, let’r fly, let’r fly I say

I can take a leak off of my front porch every single day

No rat race to be caught up in

No dollar sign that I’m trying to win

No fancy life that I’m trying to find

No, money can’t buy this state of mind

Every night I thank the Lord

Got so much to be thankful for

Right here I have all that I need

This simple life is the life for me

I love my kids and I love my wife.

I love my work; I love my life.

But the best part of a life like this

Is when I get the urge to piss

I can step outside, drop my drawers

And take a leak off of my front porch.

Let’r fly, let’r fly, let’r fly I say

I can take a leak off of my front porch every single day

When wintertime comes, it don’t stop me

I stand and shiver as I pee

I guess it makes me feel more like a man

I pee off the porch just because I can

Yea, I love my kids and I love my wife.

I love my work; I love my life.

But the best part of a life like this

Is when I get the urge to piss

I can step outside, drop my drawers

And take a leak off of my front porch.

I let’r fly, let’r fly, I let’r fly I say

I can take a leak off of my front porch every single day.
